Adult Muay Thai Striking

This program is offered in our Millersville and Pasadena locations.

We call this program striking because it’s exactly that. It isn’t strict Muay Thai, Tae Kwon Do, Kickboxing, Boxing, etc. Our striking class is a hybrid of stand up martial art disciplines. We teach you what works, and leave out what doesn’t. Our striking instructors come from a varying background of styles, and all bring a unique set of skills to the striking program. All classes are geared to any experience level. If you’re a beginner we will start you at the beginning, if you’re an experienced pro, we will partner you with fighters on your level.

While our striking program pulls from multiple disciplines, the techniques are grounded primarily in Muay Thai Kickboxing. Muay Thai is known as “the art of eight limbs” because the art utilizes the hands, elbows, knees and feet in devastating fashion. As the national sport of Thailand, it’s popularity has spread throughout the world after proving itself repeatedly in the competitive ring. Muay Thai is commonly seen in events such as The K-1 Fighting championships. For centuries the art of Muay Thai (Thai Boxing) has been the most effective stand-up combat art in the world and its fighters unrivaled in the ring. Hundreds of thousands of fans can attest to the power and fury a Thai Boxer can unleash on his or her opponent.

In this class, you will also learn the best of boxing including footwork, lightning fast punch combinations, slipping or evading punches and special tactics. Western style boxing is truly a martial art. That is why it will forever be known as “the sweet science”. As a beginner, you will punch and kick pads and bags like there is no tomorrow. It is an awesome workout! Striking is perfect for men and women looking for reliable and practical self-defense with superior cardio conditioning.

Our striking classes are definitely challenging. Each class works most of the human body’s physiological systems. The musculoskeletal system becomes stronger through specialized resistance exercises and specific drills. The cardio respiratory and vascular systems become more efficient through workouts that are more than 60% anaerobic. The central nervous system is trained to respond faster and more efficiently to punching combination drills.

Intensity is the trademark of a good striking workout. Many drills are made up of two or three minute rounds, with one minute recovery periods. You push through your current lactate threshold and improve it during the round, or anaerobic interval, by working at 85-90% of your maximum heart rate. During the one minute rest period, you learn to more efficiently recover your oxygen debt while simultaneously stretching and reviewing proper technique.

Strength gain is a natural byproduct of our striking workouts. Students work with partners, specialized equipment and plyometrics in a manner that maximizes calorie burn to increase lean muscle mass. Students focuses on improving speed, strength, explosiveness and lactate threshold management while simultaneously keeping body fat at minimal levels.

A Note About Sparring at Conquest

As students progress they will be slowly introduced to live sparring. Sparring gives you the opportunity to test your skills in a controlled environment against a resisting opponent. Our professional instructors will evaluate your skill level before allowing you to live spar during class. Safety is always a priority when we are training. While we understand injuries may occur we will take every precaution to create a safe training environment for all of our students. No pressure is placed on any students to spar before they feel ready.
