Josh Ford

Josh Ford

Josh Ford was originally introduced to grappling as a high school wrestler in Georgia. His first experience with BJJ was in Atlanta in 2001 with Romero “Jacare” Cavalcanti and the well known Alliance BJJ team. At the time, it was hard to stay consistent and train often and it wasn’t until 2003 and a move to Denver that Josh found the time to devote to BJJ. Finding a team in Colorado, he structured his life around the training schedule and charged headfirst into BJJ. Josh was awarded the rank of Black belt in 2009 from the late Mauricio Zingano, who was a black belt under Master Carlos “Caique” Elias. He was heavily influenced by many other black belts along the way, including Tyrone Glover, Luiz “Preto” Claudio, Dave Ruiz and Amal Easton.

Through BJJ, Josh was drawn into Mixed Martial Arts and competed in his first amateur fight in 2004. His career and business aspirations took him out of competition from 2006 until 2009, when he again started training more seriously for MMA. Joining the well known Grudge Training Center Pro Team alongside UFC fighters Shane Carwin, Nate Marquardt, Brendan Schaub, Brandon Thatch, Cody Donovan and more, Josh had four fights from 2009 to 2011. After his last fight he became the head ground coach for Grudge until leaving to work strictly on a one on one basis with many top level professionals to include Top Ranked UFC fighter Cat Zingano.

In 2014, Josh and his family moved to Maryland. Leaving behind the fighters he coached and the training partners he had in Denver, Josh decided to temporarily take some time off from training and coaching. Josh began corresponding with BJJ Conquest black belt Lance Trippett and they began to train together from time to time. After getting settled, Josh was ready to get back in the game. BJJ Conquest made it easy to find a new home and he quickly felt welcomed and part of the team. With the MMA team growing and Josh’s previous experience at the highest levels of the sport, BJJ Conquest asked him to come on as the head MMA coach.

Aside from coaching, Josh is a certified in sports nutrition and has worked with many fighters on their nutrition for training camps and cutting weight. When not in the gym, he also runs a tattoo equipment manufacturing company and has been tattooing professionally for 20 years.
